GO WILD AT TARONGA
Looking for fun ways to entertain your cheeky monkeys these school holidays? For visitors and Sydney-siders alike a trip to Taronga Zoo is a staple on every family's to do list. I have fond childhood memories of catching the ferry to the zoo and peering out the sky-rail at the elephants and giraffes. In my teens I became passionate about animal rights and as a result boycotted zoos. 15 years later my job in children's television required me to work closely with Taronga and after being educated on the upgrades and conservation inititatives I developed a new respect for the work they do. I have since enjoyed introducing my own wild one to some amazing creatures great and small. Here are my top three zoo experiences for the summer.
ROAR & SNORE: An absolute must for everyones bucket list, this is the ultimate overnight glamping experience. Close-up animal encounters, behind the scenes tours, a delicious roast feast and drinks overlooking Sydney harbour on one side and lions, Snow Leopards and Meerkats on the other. Quintessential Sydney, the ultimate family outing that must be experienced at least once in your life.
ZOO ADVENTURES: If battling the holiday crowds isn't your idea of a fun day out, the kids can still get their animal fix with the daily school holiday program. Little ones between 5 - 10 years are entertained with the Sky Safari, Seal and/or Bird Show, the Meet a Keeper Experience, private animal encounters, a photo to take home and a range of fun and educational activities. Each day has a different theme- our picks are "Chimpanzee Capers", "Meerkat Mayhem" and "Wet and Wild". Weekdays 9.30-3pm. Extended care available.
TWIGHLIGHT AT TARONGA : The annual Summer Concert Series is on every weekend from 1 February until 29 March. This year's line up includes The Whitlams, Beatlemania, Jimmy Barnes, Katie Noonan and more. Grab a picnic and enjoy live music under the stars overlooking the magical harbour. Fully licensed. Picnic hampers available to pre-order.
