I think all of Australia fell a little more in love with Kelly Rowland after her recent judging stint on The Voice.
So you can imagine my surprise when Kelly herself (yes, THE Kelly Rowland- Insta-tick certified) contacted me through Instagram to tell me she loved what I was about and wanted to meet up!
Within minutes of meeting we were exchanging hemorrhoid stories and chatting all things mum life... nothing like some real mum talk to fast track a friendship ;)
Her real, funny, no holds barred account of those early mothering days are a breath of fresh air and reflected in her book Whoa, Baby!: A Guide for New Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed and Freaked Out (And Wonder What the #*@& Just Happened). And she's absolutely right! There are so many books about the pregnancy and birth, but not many about what happens after. I found myself giggling and nodding in agreeance all throughout, I just wish it was around after my first birth with Archie! As well as Kelly's personal experience there are some fabulous insights and recommendations from her OB/GYN who co-authored the book. It really is a must-read for new mums.
I also had the pleasure of getting a snapshot on Kelly's take on pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Here's what she had to say... and I promise I didn't make up the last answer! ha!

Plan or no plan? I had a plan, but if anything had gone wrong, I would have have had to trust my instinct and the doctors
What surprised you the most? How easy it was to push him out. Yes I'm that mom, I even hate me.

Best part... seeing the world through their eyes
Biggest challenge... these terrible two's so far! I'm trying not to lose the wars, but debating on the battles.... with a two year old!
Top tip for new mamas...everyday it's something new and if you're not prepared for it, you'll figure it out. It's in our DNA. That's why God made women mothers.
Your ultimate mama crush?
Not So Mumsy! how does someone look so hot after you have a baby and while you're breastfeeding your baby?? Granted, she did give us all of the secrets, but nobody rocks it like her!
