Style icon, heiress to the Italian fashion house Missoni, creator of Margherita Kids and mama to two boys has now ventured into children's interiors with recent collaboration with Pottery Barn Kids. The Margherita Missoni for Pottery Barn Kids collection of home décor for nursery, bedroom, and playroom, was inspired by the playful spirit of childhood. The capsule collection, which is Margherita’s first foray into children’s home furnishings, will be available online at potterybarnkids.com.au and Pottery Barn Kids stores Australia-wide. I chatted to her about all things from children's decor to her changing motherhood style and how she spends her family time.
I find inspiration everywhere – the people I meet, the places I go, the things I see. It's important for me to make the most of every opportunity and immerse myself in every experience.
Do you have a favourite or standout piece?
The rugs and daisy chair are my favourite pieces.
How different was it designing decor as opposed to clothing?
Not very different – with my childrenswear line Margherita Kids, I mix and match colors, textures and prints, which encourage self-expression and inspire children to explore their individuality. I took the same approach when designing the capsule collection in collaboration with Pottery Barn Kids; I wanted to create a line of home furnishings that wouldempower children to be imaginative and inventive. I'm thrilled about the collection, it’s so joyful and whimsical.
Can you share three tips for styling a child's room or nursery?
Good, soft flooring, a dramatic canopy, a small climbing wall and lots of toy containers. I love child-sized furniture andstrongly believe that it's important for children to be surrounded by furniture that's both approachable and appropriate for their size.
How do you juggle your work/life balance with your two boys and businesses?
I go with the flow being true to myself and following my passions. Of course I know that I am fortunate, and I am very thankful to be able to do what I do.

Who are your "mama crushes" or inspirations?
Charlotte Dellal- always impeccable, despite taking care ofthree boys and running a shoe empire.
Mimi Thor- my Instagram crush, and it amazes me how she has such an idillic life with that flock of children.
Angela Missoni- my original inspiration, and the most motherly person I've ever come across.
You're recognised as a fashion icon- has your style changed since becoming a mother and if so how? -What is your go-to outfit on a day to day basis?
When I became a mother, the biggest change was being a much calmer and patient person. I’m also much more confident in myself, my decisions and approach to life.
I now follow trends less than I did before. My style has become more considered and practical – I haven’t fully achieved it yet but I dig the idea of a daily uniform.
What are three things you never leave home without?
Eye drops, iPad and a healthy snack for the children.
What is your favourite way to spend a Sunday?
Wandering around a fleamarket, then enjoying a cheerful,open-air lunch with friends and family.
